national day fireworks!

my posts are like always a day late... haha coz today is the 10th and i'm blogging about my national day.. oh well, the morning was spent online, and in the afternoon i met mary at city hall at about 4+pm, and boy it was so crowded! i was in a light-blue top and i didn't realize people were so patriotic and i regretted not wearing a red top to join in the red crowd... =(

anyway when we got to the waterfront it's like already quite packed.. we went to the railings with some room for you to sit and we managed to find a spot just nice to fit our two butts.. and we sat. he took out homework and started doing math. and i helped him to copy his bio notes.. took some photos, and we did work and talked till about 6:30pm... all this while it got more crowded in front of us *our backs were facing the water*, with kiasu singaporeans bringing beach mats, and even pieces of cardboard, and sitting on them in the sun, some even with umbrellas.. all that effort to chope a good place to watch the fireworks, even if it does mean sitting there for 3-4 hours and doing nothing..

i think at close to 7pm, there were parachuters, planes flying in formation, planes carrying the state flag and circling around... everyone started getting excited and pointing at the sky... then later was the airshow, where uber-loud planes flew by and then we sat down again to wait for the fireworks at 8pm.. the only annoyance was the bloody loud music which was like really not my taste... we stuffed tissue paper in our ears and it improved things a little bit...

oh yea there was also the 21 gun salute over at marina bay... so loud! and we see the smoke before we hear the BOOM... this shows that light does travel faster than sound LOL and it was so loud each time they fired.. we could even see the waters moving coz of the firing... so cool...

then at about 8:15pm, the sky lighted up... gosh we were right under it... the feeling cannot be described man, standing right under the fireworks as it light rains down on you... took a bunch of pictures... on the left, marina bay, there were really colourful fireworks.. and on the right, the padang, there were vertical sparks shooting up... dunno where to look sia.. then 8:25pm got 2nd round.. the fireworks above us were the most spectacular, until little specks and sparks came raining down on us.. and we were like covered with little black pieces of stuff.. -.-

then we went to marina square and had dinner at 9pm.. i had char kway teow.. then we went to take the train home... surprisingly when we got to the city hall exit, there were security personnel blocking us off, saying the station's too overcrowded, must walk to bugis or raffles place station... on the way we were blocked again and then gradually we reached another city hall station exit and people were going in, so we went in too and just took the train home...

this is actually my first national day not spent at home watching the parade.. pretty fun... i wanna actually GO to the parade! and i dun mean the preview!!!! but fireworks was good enough.. :) go to chunz.multiply.com for the photos!
